Reaching Sherando Lake

We finally arrived at Sherando Lake on Thursday 13th June. We were directed to the Group Camping area where a site had been reserved for us and set up camp.

The first night we were visited by our local resident juvenile black bear who was looking for anything tasty the new folks had left out for him.
There are plenty of wildlife around including deer who stroll around the whole area and will come quite close to you if you don't spook them. There are also chipmunks, gray squirrels, raccoons, and hundreds of birds of many varieties.
We haven't yet visited the upper lake but the lower lake is clear and beautiful.
A trip over the hills, crossing the Ridgeway, takes us to Nellysford where we visit the local church - Rockfish Valley Church - where the folks are friendly and the Pastor teaches the Word.
We asked if they needed us to stay past the end of August, as we arrived 2 weeks late, and were told we could stay until the site closes at the end of October. So our Summer stay is going to extend into the Fall.
The only downside is there is NO cellphone reception on any of the networks, and we have to go down the hill a half a mile or so to get internet reception. But that is really not an inconvenience.
